Congresswoman Carjacked While On Tour In Philly

While on tour in Philadelphia today with her fellow legislators, U.S. Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon was carjacked at gunpoint at 2:46 p.m. in FDR Park.

The congresswoman, a 62 year-old Democrat from Pennsylvania's 5th congressional district, which includes South Philly, was returning to her parked car in the 1900 block of Pattison Avenue when, according to police, she was approached by two black males, between 20 and 30 years of age, driving a dark-colored SUV.

Both males were armed and demanded the keys to her vehicle. They drove off with her blue 2017 Acura MDX with PA license plate LKG8893. The carjackers were last seen traveling west bound on Pattison Avenue towards Pennrose. They escaped with the congressman's U.S. government cellphone, purse and government ID.

No injuries were reported.

It's just been a couple of weeks since Dec. 7th, when one of Scanlon's fellow Democrats, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, famously declared at a news conference that there's no crisis of violent crime here in Philadelphia, and that visitors shouldn't be fearful about coming to town.

“We don’t have a crisis of lawlessness, we don’t have a crisis of crime, we don’t have a crisis of violence," Krasner famously insisted at a disaster of a press conference, a video that the D.A.'s office subsequently deleted from its Facebook page.

Asked whether tourists should be fearful of coming to Philadelphia at a time when the city had already set a new all-time record for homicides, Krasner said, “No, they should not."

“They should come into the city of Philadelphia, they should enjoy every wonderful thing this city offers, in terms of shopping, in terms of staying overnight, in terms of dining out, in terms of walking around with their kids, wearing their mittens, they should enjoy all of that," said the D.A. whose comments made him a national joke on Fox News.

"But no, they should not be fearful about that," Krasner said about the threat of violent crime, because, "This city welcomes them with open arms."

Within a week of Krasner's idiotic public service announcement, police reported 15 armed robberies in Center City alone. In a half-dozen of the those crimes, people were robbed at gunpoint of their wallets, credit cards, cell phones, as well as five watches including four Rolexes. The victims included a groom who was attending his own wedding.

Now, a congresswoman has been victimized.

In a statement, Scanlon's office told 6ABC that she "thanks the Philadelphia Police Department for their swift response, and appreciates the efforts of both the Sergeant at Arms in D.C. and her local police department for coordinating with Philly PD to ensure her continued safety."

And, as he usually does when crime dominates the news, the incompetent and impotent Mayor Kenney wanted everyone to know how the carjacking of the congresswoman had impacted his feelings.

"It's disheartening, and quite frankly infuriating, that criminals feel emboldened to commit such a reckless crime in the middle of the day in what should be a place of tranquility and peace -- one of Philadelphia's beautiful parks," Kenney declared in a pablum-loaded statement to 6ABC. "My thoughts are with her during what I'm sure is a traumatic time."

Gee thanks Jim. As the city's top official, maybe you could get off your fat ass and start doing something to make this city safer. Like fire your incompetent police commissioner.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia's murder rate now stands at a record 544, a 14% increase over last year. At this rate, the city will set a new all-time record this year with 568 murders.

No doubt the mayor will continue to be disheartened and infuriated when we set that new all-time record. But not disheartened and infuriated enough to do anything about it.

  1. I wonder how iw she feels about police accountability and defunding them now. With any luck the feds will take over when these dirtballs are caught so that asshole Krasner and his crew can't screw anything up.

    1. She fine with all that!
She'll have her district redrawn to exclude the parts of it in Philadelphia.
Besides, South Philadelphia is full of Italians and Catholics.
Kenney and the Inquirer simply loathe them.

    Pluuuuezeee!
Jim Kenney and his machine have emboldened rich, white people to sack the city. Like Joyce Leavitt, who stole huge amounts of money from the VisitPhilly Tourist Bureau. Kenney helped cover up tye theft.
    Now THAT'S infuriating!

  4. Maybe it's time for the city to go back to what works.
Swallow your pride Jimbo and look at past administration's success and use it.
So what if your liberal political friends don't approve because you will never win another election in your lifetime.
    Great article again RALPH!!!!

  5. It is safe to predict that Krasner will wash his hands of this entire matter. Look for some form of "Its not my job man." statement as he defers prosecution to the Federal authorities. All the while he will be heaping praise on the Congresswoman and honors on politically correct non-participants. Calls for police service from crime victims will be ignored as he continues to minimize and deny the failure of his office. The Congresswoman will continue her hate campaign against police from her hiding spot under her desk.

  6. Every cop on the street is laughing their ass off over this. Couldn't have happened to a better person. Maybe one of the other losers, Kenny, Krasner or Outlaw will be next. Oh wait, they have round the clock protection in a city that has no crime problem.

  7. In addition to the 546 reported homicides the city also has another 180 deaths that they categorize as Suspicious (S numbers). They categorize those deaths as S numbers to keep the homicide count lower than what it really is. Why isn't anyone asking why?

  8. I had to laugh when I watched congresswoman Scanlon blame the NRA for not wanting stronger gun control laws as the reason why there is so much gun violence. I am not a gun person, however, I am not against gun ownership. What gets under my skin is when people blame the NRA and demand stronger gun laws. When are these idiots going to realize and admit that most of the crimes involving guns are being committed by assholes using illegal weapons? Anyone with common sense knows that stricter gun laws won't work and that gun buy backs are a waste of money because the bad guys will always have weapons. Have you ever noticed that the weapons turned in at buy back events usually come from honest people and are so old that they no longer work? I must ask, when was the last time that some critter used a flint lock muzzle loader in a running gun battle with other punks?
What we need are mandatory minimal 5 year sentences for committing crimes with guns and longer mandatory sentences if the gun is illegal. Laws need to be on the books that make it impossible for an incompetent, corrupt prosecutor, like Krasner, cannot bargain down prison time.
So congresswoman Scanlon instead of putting blame on the NRA why don't you help law enforcement by drafting a bill that would require mandatory sentences for gun crimes. I'm sure that the police and NRA would work with you to come up with a foolproof law.
